You always hear that little voice inside your head saying "you will thank me later". Well, that little voice was your parents and guess what? They were right.
Recently, my parents and I split. Split meaning I moved to Kearney to live on my own and my parents moved 2 hours away to the small town of Nelson. Nelson is near the Kansas border. It's only been 2 weeks since the big move, but I miss my parents like crazy. So this post is going to have a personal twist as I want to thank my parents individually for the sacrifices made.
To begin I want to thank my stepdad, Eric, for teaching me to make the best out of any situation. When I was little, my dad passed due to a car accident. Eric was right there to step in as a father figure. Despite when all the bad things happened to me, my stepdad was there to lessen the pain and make me laugh a little more each day. Even when sometimes I didn't want to.
Oh my mother, I am sorry for all the times I picked on her, but thanks for allowing me to do so. In all seriousness, I wanted to say thanks for staying strong when dad passed. I know it wasn't easy to mourn the loss of your best friend/high school sweetheart and raise 4 kids all on your own. I don't mean to vouch, but my mother is strong, as that is a tough situation to be in.
I cannot thank my parents, stepdad and mother, enough for teaching me about life all the way from the great wonders to the harsh reality of it, especially my dad. As I know he is watching over me from heaven, protecting me. May you rest in peace. 6/19/71-9/1/00.
